EGMS Semester Exams

Good afternoon Eastern Greenbrier Middle School Parents and Families,

Your child will bring home their class schedule on Friday, January 5. Each teacher will have marked EXEMPT or TEST next to each class to let you know which tests your child will need to take and which tests from which they are exempt. Please look over that information with your child. The semester exams at Eastern Greenbrier Middle School will be given on January 9, 10 and 11.

January 9 – English/Language Arts, Art and Foreign Languages Semester Exams

January 10 – Math, Technology and All Band, Music, Theater, etc. Semester Exams

January 11 – Science, Social Studies, Health and Physical Education Semester Exams

Attendance Rewards for Middle, and High School Semester Exams/Assessments:

A. Semester exams/assessments are required to be taken in all classes each semester; however, exemptions can be obtained through daily attendance and academic achievement.

B. Mandatory semester exams/assessments are based on attendance and academic achievement for each semester. Final exam/assessment requirements reset at the start of each new semester.

Students may be exempt from final exams/assessments IF:

They have an A, B, or C average in the course and no more than 7 absences.

Important facts to remember:

I. WVEIS record will be used to calculate absences and grades.

II. School approved absence for academic or athletic events are considered attendance exemptions and will not count per this policy.

III. Out of School Suspensions (OSS) or any Level 3 or Level 4 discipline offense will require the student to take the course exam.

IV. Three (3) tardies equal one absence. Three (3) early dismissals equal one absence.

V. Per state policy, students have three days from the date of absence to turn in excused notes.

VI. The exam will count as 10% of the student’s overall class grade.

IX. Students may choose to take the exam to improve their grade.

X. An appeal form is available and must be turned in to the principal 2 weeks prior to the exam date.

*If your child is exempt from exams, they should not attend school.

**Students who are exempt from exams will not be counted as absent on exam days. Therefore, this will not affect attendance or perfect attendance.
