Communities in Schools

Communities in Schools (CIS) is a non-profit organization that has served students in Greenbrier County since 2004.  Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.  CIS has faithfully served EGMS students for several years, focusing on improving academics, attendance and providing behavioral and social/emotional support.   

 Our hope is to continue to have a positive relationship with teachers and staff as we all strive to meet the needs of our students.  Below are some examples of the services we provide: 

-Student Check ins/Mentoring by CIS Staff 

-Weekly Student Community Mentoring/Tutoring 

-Basic Needs (Clothing/Shoes, School Supplies, Toiletries, Hair Cuts, Eye Glasses etc.) 

-Parent/Guardian Communications/Providing Resources

Amy is starting her 6th year at EGMS and loves working with middle school students.  Her favorite part of the job is watching students that are struggling at school and home start to believe in themselves and slowly succeed at school and in their life.  In her personal life, she is a proud wife and mother to Nixon (15), Jeb (13), Grace (11) and Asa (9).

Janelle is starting her 7th year with Communities in Schools.  She started out at EGMS and is excited to be back.  She will split her days between EGMS and Communities in Schools of Greenbrier County’s main office.  She has three boys, one attends EGMS and the other two attend East.  You will also see her on soccer and football fields cheering on her kids.

Sam is starting her 2nd year with Communities in Schools.  When she isn’t at EGMS, she works at Ronceverte Elementary School.  She lives in Ronceverte with her family.  She has three children that attend Ronceverte Elementary.
